FIVE (5) ENACTUS SOUTH AFRICA TEAMS TO COMPETE IN THE NEDBANK SCALING FOR IMPACT ENACTUS CHALLENGE

Enactus is an international non-profit organization with a network of business, academic and student leaders who have a vision to create a better, more sustainable world.

24th July 2019
Johannesburg, South Africa

Enactus is an international non-profit organization with a network of business, academic and student leaders who have a vision to create a better, more sustainable world. Nedbank joined Enactus in celebrating small business development. Both believe collectively that this is unleashing the entrepreneurial spirit of people and fuel economic growth in our local communities. This enhances South Africa’s competitiveness and service levels in the Small to Medium Enterprises (SME) sector.

This partnership with Nedbank Limited is designed to recognize and reward Enactus teams in South Africa that were selected to participate in the 2019 Scaling of Projects Program that Enactus rolled out in partnership with the Centre for Local Economic Development (CENLED). The top 5 teams were selected by an independent panel of adjudicators from Nedbank to address socio-economic challenges in communities through the use of entrepreneurial action to effect positive change. All of these projects are past the start-up phase. The following teams advanced to the Final Round of this special competition taking place tomorrow, Tuesday 25th June 2019 at Nedbank Limited, 135 Rivionia Road, Sandton, Johannesburg where they will present their impact:

• Durban University of Technology: Agri-Business
• University of KwaZulu-Natal: Sack Space
• University of Mpumalanga: Hatching Hope
• University of Pretoria: Patio Pallets
• Vaal University of Technology: Clorganic

Nedbank Enterprise Development Experts will assess and judge the team’s 12-minute presentations. In addition, there will be a 5 minutes Q&A session. These teams will all be granted seed funding to further these projects.

For Nedbank, small to medium sized enterprises are important and its client-centred strategy recognises the powerful virtuous circle of entrepreneurship through the influence they have on business, households, employees and the communities they serve.

At the Enactus National Competition, we celebrate collaboration through the participation of dedicated students, academics and business leaders where Enactus teams present the impact of their entrepreneurial projects to panels of business leaders serving as judges. This year, the National Competition will be hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre, Maude Street, Sandton on the 8th – 9th July 2019. The winner of the Enactus South Africa National Competition 2019 will advance to the Enactus World Cup to be hosted in Silicon Valley, San Jose, California (USA) on 16th -18th September 2019.
