ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: ENACTUS IMPACT@WORK SPONSORED BY MTN

Enactus South Africa has been partnering with the MTN SA Foundation since 2019 as an anchor sponsor of the Impact@Work Program.

This program is aimed at capacitating TVET students and alumni develop and implement income-generating economic, social and environmentally sustainable enterprises. The ambition is to create a generation of job-creators with a high level of commitment, integrity and innovative thinking.

At Enactus, we have a vision to create a better, more sustainable world and are passionate about advancing the economic, social and environmental health of South Africa. Furthermore, MTN SA Foundation supports the establishment of enabling environments that allow entrepreneurs as well as SMMEs to thrive within the communities they operate.

This year, activation events will be held at each of the participating TVET colleges from the 19th – 28th May 2021 to publicize the opportunity and select participants based on assessments. The selection process is through an adoption of a combined curriculum comprising of STEP, Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) and Design Thinking Methodologies.

During activations there will be an introduction to entrepreneurial skills and development of TVET College students, that will ultimately get them to launch economic and social sustainable enterprises. These are the 5 participating TVET Colleges that will be participating in this year’s MTN Impact@Work Programme:

  1. Sekhukhune TVET College, CS Barlow Campus, Groblersdal
  2. False bay TVET College, Fish Hoek Campus, Cape Town
  3. Waterberg TVET College, Regorogile, Thabazimbi
  4. Gold Fields TVET College, Welkom Campus
  5. Flavius Mareka TVET College, Sasolburg Campus

The Chief Executive Officer and Country Director for Enactus South Africa NPC, Letitia de Wet, “We at Enactus imagine a South Africa that sees the SMME sector booming, that sees entrepreneurship as a viable, exciting and selected career, and not a desperate alternative to unemployment or wage-replacement. And we are committed to contribute to get our youth capacitated to be successful.”

According to Ms Angie Maloka, Senior Manager, Community Programmes for MTN SA Foundation, “Impact@Work utilises a grass-root approach and recruits high potential entrepreneurial students. It targets personal and professional development, helps students to identify social issues, and create income generating solutions while using a disruptive and frugal approach based on Human Centered Design and Design Thinking. In addition, this entrepreneurship development program gives TVET College alumni and students a platform to become business owners and create sustainable businesses.”

The incentives for all Impact@Work participants include the following:

  1. Capacity Building Program for the Youth
  2. Mentoring and professional coaching to develop early start-ups
  3. Cash Awards
  4. Access to seed funding & other training and support (SEDA)

Enactus effects positive change and develops the student’s skills whilst bringing hope to their communities.
